For process to be certified as having Six Sigma quality, it must have at the maximum 3.4 defects per million opportunities (DPMO).
The key sub-methodologies by which Six Sigma quality can be achieved are
- DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) -
which is used fore incremental improvement of existing processes that are below Six Sigma quality - DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify) -
which is used to develop new processes for Six Sigma products and services. It can also be used for new versions of the products service when the extent o changes are substantially greater than what incremental improvements can address
